At Easy Markdown Editor, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our online markdown editor and viewer. The short version: your documents stay on your device, and we use Google Analytics only to understand anonymous site usage—not to read your content.

Information We Don't Collect

Easy Markdown Editor is designed so your writing stays private. Here’s what we do not collect:

  • Your markdown documents or any content you create
  • Personal information such as name, email, or contact details (we don’t require accounts)
  • Account credentials or profiles

How Your Data is Stored

All your markdown documents are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. This means:

  • Your documents never leave your device
  • We cannot access your content
  • Your data stays on your computer or mobile device
  • Clearing your browser data will remove your saved documents

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use the site—for example page views, approximate location (country/city level), device/browser type, traffic sources, and anonymous product events such as loading a document into the editor. This helps us improve the product.

  • We do not send your document content to Google Analytics
  • Google may process technical data such as IP address according to its own policies (often truncated or anonymized depending on settings and region)
  • You can limit analytics with browser settings, extensions, or Google’s ads/analytics opt-outs where available

Cookies and Local Storage

Easy Markdown Editor uses browser local storage and may use cookies for:

  • Saving your markdown documents locally
  • Remembering your theme preference (light/dark mode)
  • Storing application settings
  • Google Analytics measurement (cookies or similar identifiers set by Google’s scripts)

Document and theme data are stored only on your device. Analytics cookies are used for the measurement purposes described above.

Easy Markdown Editor for VS Code

This policy also covers the Easy Markdown Editor extension for VS Code, Cursor, and other VS Code-based editors. The extension is designed the same way as the website: your Markdown files stay in your workspace and are never uploaded anywhere.

  • Your Markdown files are read and edited only on your machine, using VS Code's own file APIs — we never transmit document content to a server
  • Your Pro license key, if you activate one, is stored using VS Code's built-in Secret Storage (encrypted by your OS keychain), not in plain text
  • Trial status (start date, days remaining) is stored locally using VS Code's extension storage, on your device only
  • License key activation is currently validated locally by the extension; it does not call an external server. If we later introduce server-side license validation (for example, to support revocation or multi-device limits), we will update this section and the key exchanged will be limited to the license key itself — never document content
  • The extension does not include analytics or telemetry

Third-Party Services

We rely on third-party services that have their own privacy policies:

  • Google Analytics — usage measurement as described above
  • Hosting / CDN (including Cloudflare) — may collect basic server or edge logs for security and performance; they do not receive your document content from our app

Data Security

Since your documents are stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers, the security of your data depends on your device's security. We recommend:

  • Using secure, updated browsers
  • Protecting your device with passwords or biometric authentication
  • Regularly backing up important documents
  • Being cautious when using public or shared computers

Children's Privacy

Easy Markdown Editor does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 for accounts or profiles—we don’t offer accounts. Analytics may still measure anonymous visits as described above. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through a contact form, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
